Abstract

Technology has become an essential part of English language learning, offering innovative ways to develop language skills through digital tools and platforms. Previous research has highlighted the benefits of technology in language learning, particularly in improving learners’ engagement and performance. However, there is still a lack of research examining how university students practically use these technologies, especially in terms of frequency, specific activities, and the integration of artificial intelligence tools in the context of Uzbekistan. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how university students use technology for learning English, the benefits they gain, and the challenges they face. A quantitative research design was employed, and data were collected through a structured survey administered to 39 undergraduate students at Kimyo International University in Tashkent. The results show that most students use technology daily, mainly through smartphones, and primarily for vocabulary learning, listening practice, and grammar support, while distraction is identified as the main challenge. Overall, the study concludes that technology positively supports English language learning, but its effectiveness depends on strategic use and the ability to manage distractions.
