Abstract

Sleep quality is an essential component of students’ health and academic functioning, yet many university students experience insufficient sleep. This study aimed to examine the sleep quality and sleep habits of prospective English language teachers in Uzbekistan and identify factors affecting their sleep. A quantitative survey with 44 second-year students at Kimyo International University in Tashkent was conducted using a Google Forms questionnaire, including both closed and one open-ended question. The findings revealed that 43.2% slept 5–6 hours, 36.36% took more than 15 minutes to fall asleep, and 72.7% believed sleep affects academic performance. Academic stress, overthinking, and excessive electronic device use were the main factors affecting sleep. Overall, the study concludes that improving students’ sleep habits and reducing stress are essential for enhancing their well-being and academic effectiveness.
