Abstract

This article analyzes the linguistic nature of aphorisms, their structural and semantic features, as well as their linguacultural and cognitive aspects. The main characteristics of aphorisms, including brevity, conciseness, semantic density, imagery, generalizability, and pragmatic impact, are examined. In addition, the representation of such concepts as time, knowledge, life, success, and labor in English and Uzbek aphorisms is comparatively analyzed on the basis of different cultural models. Aphorisms are interpreted as linguacultural units that reflect the historical experience, national values, mentality, and worldview of a particular people. The theory of conceptual metaphor is also employed to analyze how abstract concepts are represented through concrete images in aphorisms. The findings demonstrate the interconnectedness of linguistic, linguacultural, and cognitive approaches in the study of aphorisms.
