Abstract

This study explores the role of proverbs as a unique form of folk wisdom reflecting social life, cultural values, and literary traditions. Proverbs, as condensed expressions of collective human experience, function as both linguistic and cultural artifacts transmitted across generations. The research analyzes the origins, functions, and transformations of proverbs within Eastern and Turkic literary traditions, with particular emphasis on their presence in classical works such as Devonu Lug‘otit Turk, Gulistan, and Panchatantra. Using qualitative textual analysis, the study demonstrates that proverbs serve not only as aesthetic elements but also as moral and philosophical guides embedded in literature and everyday communication. The findings reveal that despite historical changes, proverbs retain their semantic stability while adapting linguistically over time. The study concludes that proverbs are essential components of intangible cultural heritage and continue to influence both traditional and modern literary discourse.
