Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a significant shift in the Indian education system, aiming to transform the school curriculum and provide students with a more holistic and multidisciplinary learning experience. This policy seeks to move away from the traditional rote learning approach and instead, focus on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills among students. The NEP 2020 proposes a flexible and choice-based curriculum, allowing students to pursue their interests and passions. The policy also emphasizes the importance of skill development, vocational training, and experiential learning, preparing students for future careers and enabling them to become active contributors to the economy. The implementation of NEP 2020 is expected to bring about a paradigm shift in the Indian education system, with a focus on student-centered learning, flexibility, and autonomy. However, the successful implementation of this policy will require significant changes in the way teachers teach and students learn. It will also require substantial investment in teacher training, infrastructure, and resources. This paper explores the key features of NEP 2020 and its implications for school curriculum in India. It discusses the potential benefits of the policy, including improved student outcomes, increased flexibility and autonomy, and better preparation for future careers. The paper also highlights the challenges that need to be addressed for the successful implementation of NEP 2020, including teacher training, infrastructure and resource constraints, and assessment and evaluation.
